Why Gladney

For more than 125 years the Gladney Center for Adoption has been serving families, children and birth parents in our International and Domestic Adoption programs. Our commitment to provide stable, loving homes for children is evident in everything we do, from the programs we offer, our caring and professional caseworkers, to our ongoing advocacy for adopted children, birth mothers and adoptive families.
At Gladney, we know that your adoption journey is as unique as your family. At every step your Gladney caseworker will guide you through the sometimes complex process of adoption. Your caseworker can answer questions, provide access to the resources you need and offer support to all members of your family. To prepare families for the unique joys and challenges of adopting an older child or a child with special needs, Gladney has developed the Pathways Adoption Preparation Program.
Our commitment and our services extend far beyond those of other adoption agencies. The Joan & Stanford Alexander Family Adoption Counseling Center was designed to provide a caring environment in which to meet the needs of our families and birth parents. This is where we bring together parent education and training, counseling and support resources to enhance the lives of all members of the Gladney family.
We also coordinate heritage trips and cultural events to help Gladney families stay connected with their child’s home country. Gladney Service Trips provide opportunities for adopted teens to volunteer at Gladney supported orphanages, deliver  humanitarian aid,  and spend time with the children while working on a community service project.

Our Gladney families are our legacy and our greatest strength. We are honored to have played a part in their lives. The experience of being a Gladney family is further deepened through Gladney Family Associations across the country. GFAs are a place to connect with other families who share the bond of adoption, who know firsthand the perseverance involved in the process, and who have an appreciation for what Gladney stands for – integrity, quality and tradition.

Our experience is your advantage.

We believe it is important to understanding the countries within which we work; from understanding the adoption process and laws of each country, to building relationships and gaining the trust and respect of the adoption officials in-country. We also work to understand the types of special needs and environmental factors that face the children in order for us to better prepare families to meet the needs of each child. To ensure that the adoption process is as smooth as possible, we have in-country guides and translators in place who are knowledgeable about adoption as well as the country of your child’s birth.
As a leader in domestic and intercountry adoption, the Gladney Center proudly became among the first agencies accredited in the U.S. as a Hague-compliant adoption agency. The Hague Convention protects children and their families against the risk of unregulated adoptions abroad and ensures that intercountry adoptions are made in the best interests of the children. The Convention also protects against unethical, unlawful and inhumane adoption practices. Gladney is a member of the National Council for Adoption, the Joint Council on International Children’s Services, and the Texas Alliance of Child and Family Services, as well as other child welfare organizations.

We understand how difficult it is to find and select an agency or attorney that you can trust to guide you through the adoption process. We hope our reputation for flexible, comprehensive client services and our 125 year tradition of trust will give you confidence to begin the adoption process and assurance that we will be here every step of the way.
